AirAsia soaring high

KUCHING: AirAsia has sold 70 per cent passenger load for inbound guests into Kuching, and anticipates that by end of this month the figure will soar to 80 per cent.

AirAsia Berhad’s Kuching hub manager S Shan said AirAsia had sold 13,000 seats for Kuching-Penang and Kota Kinabalu-Penang routes for the next four months, pointed out that this showed great demand in Penang for East Malaysia.

He was speaking yesterday at Kuching International Airport before the inaugural AirAsia flight from Kuching to Penang.

Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Minister of Urban Development & Tourism had proposed Kuching or Miri as possible stopover for established air routes to Kuala Lumpur from destinations such as Taipei, Korea, and Hong Kong.

He said that if Malaysian Airlines could incorporate a city in Sarawak as a stop-over for existing daily or weekly international flights to Kuala Lumpur, this would strengthen Sarawak’s ability to market itself as a tourism destination.
