Pasir Pandak-Pasir Panjang area to be new tourism product

KUCHING: The Pasir Pandak and Pasir Panjang area will be developed as a new tourism attraction under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

In announcing this yesterday, Santubong Member of Parliament Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the State government would build recreational facilities to upgrade the area.

“When they are completed, more people will come to Santubong, including foreigners who love the natural environment. Therefore, I hope that the people in kampungs in Pasir Panjang and Pasir Pandak will make use of the opportunities to improve their standard of living,” he said when opening a tourism awareness seminar here.

Junaidi said that the stretch from Santubong beach to Tanjung Datu in Lundu had much to offer in terms of tourism, but the local people were still not aware of the opportunities such as in offering homestay to visitors.

“The people from the West come not to see our shopping centres, but to experience the culture and nature that they cannot find in their own country. They might never have seen a durian tree before and seeing one could be something they will remember for the rest of their life,” he said.

Junaidi also said that the cable car project in Santubong was expected to be completed under the 9MP.

The three-day seminar was participated by 50 community leaders from the Santubong parliamentary constituency.
