Inter-cultural Moon Cake Fest on Sept 19-25

KUCHING: This year, the Sarawak Inter-Cultural Moon Cake Festival, will be held for seven days, starting from September 19 to 25 at Wayang Street, Ewe Hai Street, Bishopgate Street, Carpenter Street and Sarawak Tourism Complex.

Carpenter Street has been chosen as the venue for the festival because of its historical significance and being one of the oldest streets in the city to have retained its charm.

The main objective of the festival is to revive and highlight such awareness and foster the prevailing spirit of tolerance, especially among the younger generations.

This year, one of the highlights of the festival will be the record-breaking ‘Largest Charity Moon Cake’ by Chef Goh Ah Seng, which will benefit the various charitable bodies. It will be launched by Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud on September 22.

Besides that, a Ramadan Bazaar will be set up at Wayang Garden and Wayang Street in conjunction with the festival.

There will be many stalls with a wide variety of food to be set up throughout the period and other activities are fashion show, modern dancing, martial arts demonstration, activities for children, cultural booths along Carpenter Street and many more.

The activities planned are to promote Sarawak as a tourism state in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 Campaign and they will be organised by the Chinese Community and Clan Associations at Carpenter Street.
