DBKU and Star Cineplex celebrates Kuching Fest with movie carnival

KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has joined forces with Hock Star Entertainment Industry Berhad for the second time to bring the 'Star Outdoor Movie Carnival' at Kuching Amphitheatre, Jalan Budaya, this Aug 24 to 26 in conjunction with this year's Kuching Festival celebrations.

"Last year we received very good response for the event and this year, DBKU decided to do it again with Hock Star. The carnival starts at 5.30pm daily with fun activities and live performances. It makes a wonderful outing for the whole family," said Norhayati Bidin, DBKU public relations officer, during a press conference at Star Cineplex Kuching yesterday.

Following similar concept as last year, nine films will be screened during the three-day carnival. Kicking off on Aug 24 is the premiere of the new Hollywood actioner called 'Rogue Assassin' starring martial arts star Jet Li and Jason Statham at 8pm.

 This will be followed by 'Fantastic Four 2' at 10.30pm and Mandarin action film, 'Invinsible Target'.

August 25, a Saturday, will see musical animation 'Happy Feet' at 7pm, 'Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix' at 9.30pm and Korean dramedy '200 Pounds Beauty' at 12.30am.

The Simpsons Movie will screen at 7pm on August 26 followed by 'Die Hard 4.0' at 9.15pm and a midnight show of local horror production, 'Possessed'. 'Possessed', directed by Sarawak-born Bjarne Wong, recently won the Best Film (Non-Malay-Language) award in last week's 20th Malaysia Film Festival.

"The Amphitheatre can hold the capacity of 10,000 to 15,000 people at one time. So it makes a great venue for this outdoor event. The event will still go on rain or shine but of course, we hope for the best for no bad weather," she added.

"Last year's turnout was 6,000 people and this year we target for 8,000 people. So far we have sold off 3,000 tickets for the carnival," said Hock Star business development executive Jessie Ting.

Movie passes for the carnival is currently on sale with a one-day pass of RM5 each for 500 customers and followed by movie passes to be sold up to the ceiling price of RM15 each. Passes can be purchased from Star Cineplex Kuching, DBKU lobby counters and at the entrance during the carnival.

The 'Star Outdoor Movie Carnival 2007' is endorsed by Sarawak Tourism Board and is listed under the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 program.
