Sibu to Host EATOF 2006

SIBU, Sept 6 -- will host the 2006 East Asia TourismForum (EATOF) from Sept 14 to 16.

State Minister of Urban Development and Tourism Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said delegates would discuss ways to encourage a greater flow of tourists into the 11 member countries of EATOF.

He said a travel mart would be held at the Everly Hotel here where travel agents would promote tourism products of their countries.

Most of the EATOF member countries will bring their own cultural troupes since the forum will coincide with the town's Borneo Cultural Festival, he said.

South Korea, Japan, China, Russia, the Philippines, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong are countries that will be sending their delegates to the forum. Malaysia will be represented by Sibu.

On another matter, Wong said Malaysia Airlines has agreed in principle to re-instate its daily Kuching/Bintulu/Miri/Kota Kinabalu route soon.

He said the Federal Cabinet would discuss it tomorrow - Bernama
