Native treat to lure tourists

KUCHING: The traditional art of wellness has long been practised by the natives in Sarawak.

The state government now wants to popularise it among locals and tourists.

“The natives are known to use their own remedies to relieve ailments,” said Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) deputy general manager Wan Liz Ozman Wan Omar.

“For example, ginger in traditional remedies helps to warm the body and muscles and improve blood circulation.”

The traditional treatment is now available at a new reflexology centre at the Sarakraf Pavilion here.

Called the Ginger Garden, the centre is a collaboration of the SEDC’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sarakraf Sdn Bhd and local company Tribal Remedy.

Wan Liz Ozman said the centre would promote Sarawak’s traditional wellness and reflexology therapies to a wider market, including tourists.

SEDC chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who launched the centre, said it was a timely addition to the products and services available at the Sarakraf Pavilion.

“It has the potential to attract tourists and enhance their experience of Sarawak,” he said.

The treatments available at the centre include a traditional shoulder massage using Bidayuh ginger and herbal recipe, traditional Iban anti-ageing facial mask therapy and indigenous reflexology methods
