| MPP all set for Padawan River Safari KOTA PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is all set for the Padawan River Safari 2007 which will be held on October 21.
The event, comprises rafting and kayak competitions, will start at Kampung Danu in Bengoh and finish at Kampungg Git, about 26 kilometres down river.
MPP, as the organiser, invited teams from its enforcement division, the Fire and Rescue Services Department, Rescue 911, Sarawak Tourism Board and the media to recce the area and see the venue for the event, which is the fourth organised by MPP and the second on Sg. Semadang, one of the tributaries of the Sarawak River.
The journey down river, which will take more than three and half hours, pass some amazing picturesque scenes and rapids which are the natural obstacles in the safari.
If the monsoon comes in October, other greater obstacles will be the swift water currents and the high water level.
According to the spokesperson and representative of MPP, Rangen Jamang, the river safari last year attracted 59 teams, including some from countries like England , Germany and Australia. He expects the number of teams taking part to double this year.
The event will help to bring more tourists, especially eco-tourists, to the beautiful country side of Padawan.
This year’s river safari will be divided into thre categories, namely Rafting Men’a Open, Rafting Women’a Open and Kayak Open.
Last year, the men’s team from Kampung Sait won the rafting open with a record time of slightly more than an hour.
MPP chairman, Tan Joo Phoi is expected to officiate at the event.
